UVic Grad’s App Helps People Hunt for Grocery Deals

A recent University of Victoria (UVic) graduate has developed an innovative app that’s making grocery shopping smarter and more affordable for consumers.

Designed to help users find the best deals on food and household items, the app aggregates discounts, promotions, and price comparisons from a variety of local stores and major grocery chains.

The idea was born out of the founder’s own experience trying to stretch a limited budget while completing studies at UVic

Frustrated by the time-consuming task of checking flyers, store apps, and websites for deals, the developer set out to create a single platform where users could quickly discover where their desired products are cheapest.

By using real-time pricing data and scanning weekly promotions, the app allows users to search for specific items and see which nearby stores offer them at the lowest price.

It also offers features like customizable shopping lists, alerts for deals on frequently bought products, and personalized recommendations based on users’ preferences and shopping habits.

Beyond helping individual users save money, the app has drawn attention from budget-conscious households and community organizations alike.

Some local food banks and advocacy groups have praised the tool for empowering people to make more economical choices in the face of rising food costs.

The UVic grad hopes to continue expanding the app’s reach by partnering with more retailers and integrating user-submitted data to improve accuracy and coverage.

With grocery prices still a concern for many consumers, the app represents a timely and practical solution to a common challenge.

As the platform grows, its creator envisions a community of savvy shoppers who can share insights, contribute tips, and help each other make the most of their grocery budgets—all through a single, user-friendly app.
